I remember taking a matatu to work one afternoon and engaging in a spontaneous conversation with the driver. I mentioned I was headed to work and would soon be back home in 3 hours, and that left him amazed at the flexibility of my job. He even jokingly suggested becoming a dance instructor himself. In that moment, I realised how fortunate I am to be pursuing dance. Despite its challenges, I recognised the hidden perks ; a perspective I rarely acknowledged. Welcome to today's post dancer friends.

"How do you know that dance is the path for you and not something else?" This is a question I've gotten a few times, and the truth is I don't think we can ever know for sure, we just have to discover what feels right and go from there. Personally, I tend to bank on the inability to be fulfilled by doing anything else. I like to say that I'd rather endure the challenges that come with pursuing a passion of mine, than suffer in a place that gives me no sense of purpose. At least this way the suffering counts for something. When I consider all my options, dance consistently stands out among them all. It's a journey I am willing to explore and even be vulnerable enough to risk getting hurt. I feel that once you are able to figure out what gives you a sense of purpose, regardless of the numbers, that could be a good sign that it's what you're supposed to be pursuing.

As artists, we are expected to come up in our various industries knowing that we almost always have to fight to get the recognition and appreciation we deserve. While acknowledging the weight of this reality, I'd like to take a moment to revel in the joy of choosing our heart's desire. Choosing to pursue what brings us a sense of purpose despite the expected hardships. Choosing to navigate this complicated industry for the fulfilling positive outcomes. For a moment, let's notice that we are taking a chance on our art and being our own number one fans by walking this path. I believe this deserves recognition and appreciation. So sit in that moment for a little, dancer friends, and bask in the acknowledgment of your choice to pursue what you love.

Keep creating & sharing!
