The certainty of uncertainty as a creative.

One of the perks of being a dance club coach in schools is getting a holiday break three times a year! I love this for me, and I couldn't imagine having to only get a long- enough break during the Christmas holiday, with the rest of the adults. But the same way January quickly approaches with creepling anxiety of what the new year holds, so does the beginning of every new term, for me. From worrying about the numbers, to hoping for an interested bunch of students, to locking in...it's basiclly like New Year's Day three times a year. This anxiety resurfaces consistently, and I only realized recently that the motivation behind it has always been uncertainty...one of the constants in the life of a creative.
What a privilege it is to have certainty. It gives you a level of confidence that even imposter syndrome has to put up a strong fight to make itself known. There's no room for what ifs, or what abouts, and as creatives, we deserve all of the flowers for putting ourselves out there with just hope to hold onto. Hope to sell out an event/theater. Hope to fill up a class. Hope to make aligned connections. Hope to relate to others. Hope to offer hope to even just one person. Isn't it wild? That there's zero guarantee any of it will work out, let alone work out well, yet we keep showing up, creating, and sharing our heart's work? Inspiringly wild is what it is!
I fully understand that the path we have chosen as creatives comes with uncertainty, but don't you ever sometimes wish that things were different? That you could have your cake and eat it? Sometimes letting oursleves sit in wishful thinking and nothing more is enough to meet us where we are at. And maybe before we know it, we will be introduced to uncertainty in a way that knocks on the door of endless possibilities, rather than have it solely be evidence of a lack of safety. Maybe it will begin to look like allowing what's meant to be, be and trusting that leading. Or maybe it will lead us back to where we started, or somewhere completely different than we imagined. Either way, the aim of today's post is to acknowledge the struggle and let you know we are in this together. May we thrive despite, despite, despite.
Keep creating & sharing!
