New year, me, resolutions...all of them!

That period of time between Christmas Day and New Years feels like the entire world is on a holiday break from school. I love it! Everyone is free and available, there's so much excitement and great energy, there is not as much traffic in Nairobi, and people are relaxed. The funny thing though, is that this atmosphere only lasts a couple of days before we are sitting around wondering what to do with our lives. I have to consistently remind myself that I am on holiday; therefore, it is okay for me to just be. Is this relatable or is it just a me thing? There's no wrong answer...Welcome to our first blog post of 2024 dancer friends!

New year, new resolutions, yes? No? Again, there's no wrong answer... I hear people say that you can restart your life at any given time within the year not just on Jan 1st, and I agree; however, there's just something about the entire world resetting at the same time. There's a collective renewal that makes you sentimental and grateful about the past, and inspired and hopeful for the future. I love it!

This year I have a couple of dance resolutions for myself, but the main one is to take more dance classes. As a dance instructor, it is very easy to fully focus on teaching and pay less attention to bettering the skill of dance itself. Taking these classes will help improve dance vocabulary which will come in handy as an instructor, dance technique which will be beneficial as a professional dancer, and dance connections which will benefit the dance community as a whole. What about you dancer friends, do you have any dance resolutions set so far? Is it to take more dance classes as well? Post more dance videos? Finally update your dance resume? Speak more about your art of dance? Whatever it is, I encourage you to work at it intentionally and commit to it throughout the year. In case you fall off, because life will happen, get back on track and keep going! Let's get to the end of 2024, and look back saying, "We did it, Joe!" I believe in us! Happy New Year!
