1,2,3,4,5 years and counting!

Dancer friends, we are officially 5 years old! 1,2,3,4,5! See us! See the good Lord! What a blessing it is to have made it this far. To think that 5 years ago I posted the very first Kena Kona instagram post?! Yes, The Kena Kona is what we initially went by. To think about the growth, the dance conversations, the opportunities, the collaborations, the classes, the memories made...what an honor it is to experience this dream uniquely unfold.

I write this with a quiet smile on my face as I recall our 1st anniversary. It was a highly anticipated day as I had made it a point to celebrate each month leading up to it – from celebrating 1 month in July, to 6 months in December, to 9 months in March..., and now the long awaited day was quickly approcaching. I was so proud of what was accomplished up to that point, that I planned a mini- intensive day of online classes to honor this 1st milestone. The poster was shared in good time, the lesson prep for each class was done, and the internet bundles secured in case KPLC did its thing. Everything was all set, all that was left was the sign ups. So I waited and waited and waited, but nothing came. I refreshed our email as often as possible hoping for a last minute sign up, but still, nothing. There was not a single sign up in the days leading to the anniversary classes, none on the day before, and none on the day of. I was devastated.

Anniversaries are meant to be met with joy and celebration and gratitude, but that one experience left a mark that did the exact opposite. I felt hurt, embarassed, blindsided, and confused. I was left with all of these questions wondering whether that was some kind of sign to stop, pause, or simply pivot...It's now been 5 years of trusting God's direction, and I am so glad the journey did not end on that day. As we celebrate this milestone, I not only have a quiet smile, I also have a hopeful heart – everything is working out for our good. I am forever grateful for you, dancer friends. Your continued support and presence mean more than you know. It truly is a blessing to have made it this far. Happy 5th year anniversary to us!
