Against All Odds

Did I ever tell you about one of the greatest opportunities I got a couple of years back? I have a feeling I did, but for those who are new here, I got to be part of an all-dance show that had me living my dream for 3 months. We would be in the studio rehearsing from 9am - 4pm, dancing all sorts of styles, learning amazing choreography, and contributing to the fruition of a one-of-a-kind dance show that would later be presented at the national theater. We would be so sore from each day's rehearsal (with body marks to prove), wake up the next day, and gladly do it all over again. That was what it meant to be professional dancers, and it felt so good and so right. We were exactly who we thought we were! This experience was wonderful, but what made it even more special was how it came to be.
It had been a couple of months since I began my social media hiatus. Immediately I got back online, one of the first posts I came across was an advertisement for the final dance class by a dance group I admired. I excitedly attended the class, and got to the end of it feeling awed by the amount of talent in the room. I was equally proud of myself for showing up and giving it my all, regardless of how challenging it turned out to be. As I contently walked out of the studio, I was approached out of the blue by the manager to audition for their upcoming all-dance show. I came to later discover that they had already held auditions prior to this final class. The cast was already set; yet still, I got the opportunity to give it a shot...and boy did I score! What was meant to simply be a dance class, turned out to be the beginning of one of the most cherished highlights of my career.
"It doesn't matter how oversaturated the market is. If God called you to it, there's room for you," Hayley Mulenda. My personal experience is proof of this truth. That opportunity had my name on it, and it found me exactly where I was, against all odds. No social media break could stop it. No challenging dance class could disqualify me. No missed audition could take it away from me. There was room for me, amid all the other skilled dancers. Maybe the market you feel called to isn't oversaturated, but it is seemingly impenetrable, unattainable, and impossible. May today's post be a reminder that there's room for you, too. Even there. There's a target audience with your name on it waiting on your genius. If the good Lord called us to it, He will bring us through it. So, whether it's because we're holding onto this promise, we have nothing else we feel as passionately about, or simply for the plot...let's do "it" anyway!
Keep creating & sharing!
