I love that dance brings people together. Whether it's at a social event, a class, or a night out, you are bound to find people from all walks of life coming together through dance. Strangers by day and dancer friends by night. Welcome to post number 17.

I attended an international student dance program a few years ago in New York, and we had the most diverse group of dancers. We had dancers from Japan, India, Mexico, Kenya, the U.S, the Philippines, Morocco, Korea, Ireland... the list goes on and on. It was so diverse that we had translators among us to bridge the gap. Even so, we would meet everyday and share the same dance classes. Regardless of the communication barrier, dance kept us connected.

Recently, I got the opportunity to teach a dance class at the Blackbird Dance Theatre (Lexington, Kentucky) under TKKDC. It was such a great opportunity to be able to share the African style of dance. Although it was a completely foreign dance style for most of the students, you could barely notice it, because once we got into the space we were speaking the same language. It ended up being such a fantastic class! Check it out below.

It's amazing to know that as a dancer you can go anywhere in the world and still be able to connect with others. That this non verbal art form is what gives you a sense of community and makes you feel like you belong. Dance truly is a universal language and we are blessed to be able to experience it.

Keep creating & sharing!
