You know how people ask what your favourite song/movie/show/anything is? I hate it because my mind all of a sudden goes blank and it's like I have no preference in anything. In today's post we are diving, not so deep, into some of my premeditated upon dance experiences. Welcome to post number 18 dancer friends!
The Art In Motion Show was the first of its kind that I had ever experienced. It was an all-dance show, with a mix of different dance styles, that had us rehearsing all day every day, stretching and training us to become the very best. I remember waking up sore almost everyday because of the amount of hardwork we were putting in. Come show time, the experience of performing live was unmatched. All our hardwork was paying off and you could see it on the faces of the people in the audience. This entire experience was pretty much the dancer's dream.
Another favourite moment was being a part of the Africa and the European Union Advertisement in 2021. This was another first of its kind. I remember being so fascinated by the behind the scenes experience. On the day of the shoot , I got picked up right outside my gate at almost 4am by a bus that said " TALENT" on it...that was all affirmation I needed to get me through the day! Getting my hair and make up done was such a wonderful feeling, and sharing a space with some of the greatest in the music industry was so motivating. My experience alone as a dancer felt so surreal and watching it all come together, as everyone played their part, was unbelievable.
My very first music video experience isn't one to be forgotten. Being a part of Muthoni the Drummer Queen's "POWER" was an unforgettable experience. I really enjoyed witnessing live the making of a music video and seeing how teamwork really does make the dream work. I remember one of the scenes where I was dancing and the people behind the scenes were cheering me on. I had to keep a straight face, but my heart was melting on the inside and it felt great! I really liked this experience because there was a lot of acting going on in addition to the dancing. My performing artist self was having a blast!
I am grateful for the above highlights, the ones I haven't mentioned, and the ones I may have forgotten to remember. All these wonderful experiences have affirmed my artistry and have validated my dreams. I encourage you to look back at your dance journey and pick out some of your favourite moments. Let these be the moments that keep you going in times of doubt, low confidence, and imposter syndrome. Thrive dancer friends!
Keep creating & sharing!
