It has been a great honour exploring this dance world with you, this year, dancer friends. Who would have thought there would be so many conversations to be held around dance? We have had meaningful conversations, and we have had vulnerable talks, as well as light banter here and there. Thank you for dancing with us, for recommending us, for interacting with us, for every view, every like, every comment, and every share. Your support doesn't go unnoticed. As we close out the year, let's take a look back at some of our highlights. Welcome to post number 22 dancer friends!
2022 is the year we began offering physical classes. These pop up classes (once a month classes) have been a great opportunity to meet other dancer friends, learn from talented choreographers, as well as explore a variety of dance styles including Afro Jazz, Contemporary, Sassy Vogue, Afro Grooves, Amapiano, and Afro Dancehall. A huge thank you to the instructors that collaborated with us, as well as the videographers, who documented each of these sessions. Check them out here >>> Pop Up Classes Recap
Another highlight of this year was that we had the opportunity to wave our TKKDC flag high. Makena, our founder, had the honour of representing The Kena Kona Dance Center as an Afro Grooves guest instructor at The Blackbird Dance Theatre in Lexington, Kentucky, and as the official Afro Jazz instructor at the Tuzinne Afro Latin Festival in Jinja, Uganda. A huge thank you to Jenny Fitzpatrick and Kiiza Johnson for making these possible. Definitely a proud moment for us!
Towards the end of the year, TKKDC was invited to partner with Itanya Initiative, a youth organisation for girls, that strives to train in matters transformational leadership, mentorship, and pageantry. It was such an honour to be able to share our dance experiences and encourage the young girls to dream big. To dream outside of the box that has been created for them by their society or circumstances. It was a blessing to be part of this project, thanks to Samantha Nyamu and Daphney Kimani.
Here at TKKDC we are all about dance: creating it, educating on it, literally moving, and sharing it. We are so grateful that we got to do each of these things in one way or the other. This year wouldn't have been the same without you dancer friends. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! It only gets better from here. We are so excited for what 2023 has in store for us!
Happy holidays and see you next year!
Keep creating & sharing!
Your dancer friend
