Did you know that there is an "underground" latin dance scene in Nairobi? As in people meet every week to dance, for FREE! Salsa, Bachata, Kizomba...!? Ever since my friend and I discovered this about a month ago, we have been hooked! We would go to one social and hear about another one, and go to that other one and hear about another other one, you catch my drift? We were discovering a whole new world that had been there all along! Can you imagine going to a space, not a dance studio and not the clurrrb, where the sole purpose is to dance and dance alone?...okay and socialize, but you're still catching my drift, yeah? Welcome to blog post number 7!
Nairobi restaurants are embracing latin socials and that's the best thing they have done...apart from offering delicious food, aesthetically pleasing ambiences, a life outside of home, and a space to socialize of course, but I digress. In this post, you are getting the tea of all the different restaurants offering these latin socials. You are very much welcome!
Ps* You'll see charges on the posters below, but worry not, that's in case you are interested in attending the class that takes place right before the social begins*
To kick us off is the Wednesday Social every Wednesday and The Sunday Social every Sunday from 5pm at Oysters & More . I personally haven't been to this one, but I like that they offer it twice a week, which caters to all the busy people. Love it!
On Thursdays, it's double trouble! You can either go for Latin Afterwork at Four Points Nairobi from 5pm, or Latino Night at Nairobi Street Kitchen from 6pm. I have been to Nairobi Street Kitchen's space and it's a beautiful and spacious one, that's for sure!
Jumpstart your weekend at the Kizomba Sundowner at The Library every Friday from 5pm. I've attended this one before and I must say that although the space is small, I enjoyed it the most.
On every 2nd Saturday of the month, you can attend Sip and Dance at Two Grapes and Friends from 4pm onwards. The space here is also small, but you have the option of dancing indoors or outdoors which offers a different vibe.
On every 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month you can attend the Afrosoul Connection at La Mesa: Movenpick Hotel from 4pm. My friend and I attended our first social here and it has become our usual spot. This one offers a free Kizomba class which comes in handy if you're a beginner. It also has different dress code themes which makes the evening even more eventful. Highly recommend!
Simply put, you can go social dancing at least once a week or if you are very ambitious 5 times a week! If you are interested in latin styles, or just love the social dancing scene, this is perfect for you. Grab your friends and go check out a social or two, it might just be the perfect evening plan you didn't know you needed!
Keep sharing & caring!
~Your dancer friend
