For the Love of Dance

I just came from a ballet class where one of my students, probably 5 years old, shouted, "Best day ever!" Her excitement was because I played a freeze-dance song she loved, and instead of just the usual stamps after class, I surprised everyone with stickers, too. I had never seen her light up like that before, and it completely warmed my heart.

Last week, I taught an adult class for the first time in a while. I was nervous, and even though I gave it my best, I left feeling like it could have been a little smoother. Later that day, one of the students shared how that class was exactly what they needed at that time, "...today, you healed a soul," they said. It amazed me how our experiences could be so different; while I focused on the details, they were simply absorbing the joy of movement. That, immediately, became the highlight of my day.

A few months ago, I had the priviledge of welcoming a mother and daughter as regulars in one of my weekly classes. Everytime they attended the class, they would share how much they enjoyed themselves. The mom even once mentioned how she looked forward to class every week. Having them in class was such a joy, a beautiful reminder of how dance brings people together.

Dance has given me so many different experiences over time, and it’s really special to see how it impacts others too. Moments like these remind me why I love what I do. Not much else to say today...just feeling really grateful for the gift that dance is.
